THE DIFFERENT LOOKS OF THE 6-SERIES AUTOMOBILE

1976 630CS. An early Karman-bodied E-12 car with a valance under bumper instead of airdam. 14" wheels.

 

An early E-12 based Alpina modified car. Still has 14" wheels but wider, deep dished; lowered suspension, airdam and graphics. True Alpinas have special production #.

Some distinguishing features of E-12 cars: smaller wheel lips, antenna on front fender. Usually valance, not airdam, stock on earlier cars.

 

Last model year of the E-12 based car. A Euro 635CSi - built in November 1981

 

This US E-12 car has been lowered, an '86 airdam and M-Technics rear spoiler have been added along with M5 polished throwing star 17" wheels.

 

A rare 1979 E-12 based Convertible or Cabriolet. This one is a UK right-hand drive Euro.

Convertibles were not a factory option, but were available through certain dealers as an aftermarket option. They were done by a body shop that specialized in convertible conversions. In the 1980's it was about an $8-9,000 add-on! No records available as to the number of conversions performed. Guesses range in the 50-200 range worldwide.

 

Two views of the E-28 based Euro M635. Note bumpers, cleaner lines, narrow license plate slot, and ///M designation; not ///M6. These were the first Ms with production starting in 1984.

 

A 1986 US E-24 car. Bigger, heavier bumpers, wide-brow turnsignals. Car has a late style ('88-'89) airdam and Hartge 16" wheels

 

A 1987 M6 with M-Technics rear spoiler. First year of US M6 and only year with "US bumper" It still wears the original TRX 415mm wheels/tires.

 

A late E-28 based car. 1988-89 cars had the same painted bumpers in Europe and US. This car also sports the M5 throwing star wheels but these have not been polished. Note difference from green E-12 car above.
