Re: 1984 633CSi Rises again!

Hello Song, I am sorry to hear about the car. I was in a similar situation as you about a year ago. Less damage, someone backed into the driver fender wing and driver door. How does someone back into a parked car? #-o I always peek in your thread from time to time because our cars are the same year ...

What ever upholstery you buy, make sure the amount of pleats sewn in are a match to yours. They differ between comfort seats, Recarros and BMW sport seats. 7 pleats on the Recarros, 5 on the BMW sport seats and I am not sure about the comfort seats. Also check out GAHH for upholstery kits. They mak...

Nice to see that the manufacturing is right on time. Can't wait to see them in person.

Re: door weatherstrips Front and rear window

I'll be down for a front set when they become available.

Edit: after checking how the seals held up over the winter, one of the rears formed a split. So I'll be down for a complete set.

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

It's been a pretty busy week. I finally managed to get a new ignition switch. The first one I received wasn't even the correct one! Even though they had the picture of the switch, the correct part number, they ended up sending me one from a E30. Even the package had the part number I ordered on the ...

Re: What Oil do you Use in your 6'er

I use whatever is the cheapest and on sale. Anything in the 15w-40, 20w-50, 15w-50 range. The opinions will be endless, but my opinion is it doesn't matter what brand as long as you do regular maintenance on your car. I manage to pick up 5 quart Mobil1 15w-50 jugs on sale at Walmart.

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

Well I spent the week trouble shooting the AC electrics with no solution in sight. The new motor works, the blower switch that activates at full speed, and the AC transistor unit no longer get hot, but the blower switch unit eats transistors like candy. My only guess is the pot on the unit is fried,...

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

Hmm, well fixing the AC is turning out to be a little bit more problematic than I had expected. After a few transistors popped on the fan control speed(replaced just to have them pop again), I've been diagnosing all the wiring and even the rebuilt AC transistor unit. When switched to the heater, no ...

Re: Heater Control Valve - ($16 fix)

I did this exact thing to my E24. It's a easy setup and better than buying those crappy MTC kits. Though I am not lucky enough to find a bracket for it, mine is being held on by zip ties.

For the hoses, I ended up ordering some U hoses and barb fittings.

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

So to continue from what I've been working on last week. Since I had the entire bottom dash out. I decided to re-harness everything. A lot of the old cloth tape was either gone, or falling apart. Some of it was in okay condition and just needed to be secured at the end with some fresh tape. The PO t...

Re: Hunting/Surging Idle

If you've never taken out the O2 sensor, I would do so and take a look at it. The real way to test it though is to take a multimeter and check the voltage it gives while running around 2500 rpm for a few minutes. It's suppose to fluctuate in voltage. TBH, they aren't that expensive for the universal...

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

The fan running slowly is normal. There is no "off" position. It was one of the multitude of rules the U.S government put into place in the name of "safety". The fan running at low speed is to make sure there is air circulation any time the ignition is on. U.S. cars had the same...

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

Last couple of weeks have been busy. I ended up doing the entire front suspension, and steering with the exception of the tie rods because I bought the tie rod ends, and the rods were so rusted that it would be impossible to get the old ends out without damaging the rods. So I ordered some whole rod...

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

Thanks for the email, I did find their site too earlier this week. Jay did not have the aluminum part. So I may give them a try to see if they have any in stock. I did a bit more reading on the subject, and a lot of people say leaking from the front is either the oring around the cup, or the shaft s...

Wow, that's absolutely perfect. Thanks guys! I checked out the aluminum part, I am sold on that. Nothing wrong with spray cans if it's done right. Prep is everything. Gotta keep it protected. I've noticed that when I use a spray can, it looks ok for a while but then it starts to check and crack. I tried a spray can for a few years but I finally got around to fixing the paint with a 2 part cata...

Pitting in the metal was very minor. I was worried I would need to use bondo. However the primer filled it all in perfectly fine and the first patch is done. I'll be working on the rest of the body all month.

My how time flies. Well I am still alive and the car is still running. I've just been too busy to really post anything and frankly, I haven't had to do anything to the car. After fixing the high idle, swapping out the ECU with a referb I got a very nice deal on ebay and a bit of wiring repair. Every...

Temperature switches may be rotted out. (The front one on the left in the photo, and the very far rear one looks like the wires are broken) I had this same issue. If you peel the rubber boot back, it may or may not have the BMW resistor fix that was done back in the day. Mine was broken and thus the...

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

So since the spring is quickly approaching, it is time to finish the heater valve fix. I never bothered to finish because with the valve off, it is fully open and I want full heat for the winter. Spring and summer time, I don't need German hot feet. This weekend I took the climate control dash out. ...

I recently came across the extra rectangular unmarked relay mounted on the outside of my fuse box. I have the same year car as you, so maybe they are similar. If you look at my thread, I removed a sensor linked to the AFM on the advice of my mechanic. So far things seem ok, except my car idles a bi...

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

Quick update on the heat valve. No leaks, it's just working fine. I did my valve adjustment last weekend. The only hard part about doing this job would be turning the engine by hand. I used the alternator to turn it. 20200223_145726_compress18.jpg All valves were within spec except cylinder 2 and 6....

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

This weekend has been pretty easy. Mostly just inspecting things to do in the spring. Muffler first, paint and removing rust second. I had to resolder the wire in the AFM. Easy job. I also picked up a spare AFM from a 533i. It works, but the car runs too high in it's idle with it. So I am not sure a...

Re: 1984 633i: Saved from the barn

I tested my injectors post an engine rebuild. 3 were stuck open and 3 fired intermittently. Make sure they are tested and working properly. Indeed, they tested fine on the meter. (All 2.5 ohm) I plan to send them in for professional cleaning and flow testing. It's on the list of things to do. I hav...
