Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
I remembered that I'd left a can of coke on the back seat of the M.
Today was very hot.
Cue the stickiest situation since Sticky the Stick Insect got stuck on a sticky bun. [to quote Blackadder]
The headlining looks staggeringly crap, but tastes great.

Oops.
I did the opposite when I lived a winter in Ukraine - a can in the glove box and retrieved only after we had dug the car out after many weeks cycling from -30 to -10; sticky indeed.......

Fitted a set of 7x16 " Style 5's .
The Remotecs I fitted previously were just a little too wide and I wanted a more stock look .Car rides beautifully but I miss the polished rims of the Remotecs so it's either off with these again and polish the rims or ........plunge for a set of RC090's

The car I bought three weeks ago has had the first set of work:
Stainless downpipe back exhaust
H&R springs
Bilstein sport shocks
full service/inspections
New (continental) radio/MP3/bluetooth/handsfree
fixed rear window switch
Full wash/clay/resin polish/protection coat
2.5 litres of conditioner into Buffalo interior (so far)
New Pirelli P7 tyres
Full registration and insurance in my state.
Next week:
Stainless headers
Steering Box rebuild
5 speed conversion
A/C conversion to R134(?)
New idler arm/bush
pinstriping
After that:
New LED OBC light bar
ODO gears
After that:
Drive it a lot.

Today I managed to fit the E12/24 dash top ventilation grills to my 1982 E28/24 car so that now I can direct the nice ice cold AC air to my face instead of randomly trying to cool the air at the top of the cabin.
The background is that in my 1985 car the AC air comes out of the dash-top grills and the centre-console grills do I use the centre-console grills only to direct cool air to my fat sweaty head whereas in my 1982 car the cooled air only comes from the dash-top grills so was unable to be directed - it is a very early E28 based car and so has a number of crossover features - but fitting the early grills means you can direct the air

Thank you kind Sir .I'm really liking the look of those 16's on your car - it looks great.
I have to say that I was a real quandary after fitting them ,initially I was so disappointed I actually booked a time slot to have the Remotecs refitted .
However after much thought I realised that the problem was down to the MB brilliant silver (code 744 ) having little sparkle with very very small flake giving it a grey effect . I also miss the polished rims of the Remotecs. So after much deliberation the materials are on there way as I write this and the style 5's will be removed ,stripped ,rims polished and centres painted and lacquered in Nissan silver . Sometime's a Man's got to do what a Man's got to do.......
I much prefer the look and ride of the 16 inch rims and although I do admire the 17 inch RC090 it's a compromise that I'd rather avoid .
Finished rims should look like this . I'll be updating the project thread on the car when they are finished and put up some photos of them .

Oops, but they still look very nice, and I hope yours come out as well. I've got the Ronal's on mine, and they're also painted/polished in a similar fashion.

So very similar to the Remotec's I've just taken off . Do you have contact problems with the rear arch lips or front inner wings with those ?dwcains wrote:Oops, but they still look very nice, and I hope yours come out as well. No, not at all, but I don't like the staggered setup, and eventually will go square.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
A new set of B6s and tie rods. Now for some more horsies...
Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
Finally fixed my shaking temp-/fuelgauge by running an additional ground wire from the blue connector to the two gauges. The resistance of the printed circuits got to high so the voltage dropped with the turn indicators blinking.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
Here's my fibreglass spare wheel cover I had made up to replace the tacky piece of plywood there from the factory in a vain attempt to save weight for better performance in an M635. This will allow me to actually carry things in the boot without hearing the crack of broken wood. Yes the inspection holes around the perimeter are smaller than original. OE holes are ~38mm (1.1/2"), while these were deliberately made to be 25mm (1") in order to provide for a larger wall thickness to prevent cracking around the edges. A small, sensible compromise.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
Well I am off to buy a lottery ticket - it's obviously my day today
After a complete no-start on my M635 this morning I fairly quickly (c20 mins) traced it to a failed pulse sensor, and expecting something similar to the three hour despicable battle I had with 635CSi back in freezing cold January (page 12 of this thread) I was amazed, astonished, bemused and delighted when both sensors quite easily slid out of their holes in under 2 mins - I then raided my spares to discover a correct length working sensor, plumbed it all back together and hey-presto it's all working again.
For reference, there was no indication of impending failure - I had used the car quite happily last week with no issues whatsoever - on testing today, pins 1 and 2 had gone open circuit. I have also ordered two more sensors as hot spares having replaced two sensors out of four on two 30+ year old cars in the last six months.
Thanks again to the forum for info on where the M635CSi main and fuel pump relays live - not outside the fuse box a la 635CSi but behind the glove-box on a rhd M635CSi car.

Sat Aug 05, I washed my E24 and made it nice and clean for a few days. Started the process of sourcing brake parts to overhaul my front end with.

Yesterday:
- Changed heater mono valve (was sorely needed, the in place one was badly damaged, and there was a lot of corrosion and deposits)
- Removed lone remaining seat (driver) and thoroughly cleaned carpet (including chewing gum removal, horror)
- Removed all "brick phone" wiring from early PO
- Started wiring for improved audio system
- Started wiring of third brake light (from an E30)

Yep, ugly and disgusting. Most of it was PO, but I have an unpleasant feeling about a specific piece of chewing gum that could well be one of my kids'...
