Today is a lovely day....
Well that's it, 50 years of work ,worry and toil behind me and as from today the world is mine ( between naps that is ....)
A bit of fiscal prudence applied in later life should see things bounce along nicely .
A bit more time to drive and enjoy the car now on days other than weekends too.
The two A4 pages of " work to be done on house and garden part 1 " deftly left on my desk this morning sorta took me unawares and having to get my own coffee this morning is a bit worrying .....
Gentlemen , my new code of dress .

Congratulations Don,
Good luck with the house projects. I am sure that you will enjoy having more time to spend with your 635.
I have not been able to get my head wrapped around an upcoming retirement so decided to “ease into it” by reducing my work load.
All this has done for me so far is make me busier than ever with a whole litany of projects that that “showed up” out of the woodwork.
I will say that slowing down some and being able to focus on the cars has been very therapeutic for me.
Looking forward to seeing more posts from you in the future.
Thanks, cb

Time to enjoy more time for hobbies Don, congrats!
Will take a few months to get adjusted then the world is your oyster - lots of traveling and keep busy.

Re: Today is a lovely day....
Congrats Don
Did the same thing a little over a year ago, although I worked "only" 42 years, post college graduation, that is
I have to admit that while we moved during the past year and the new (to us) house has kept me quite busy, I do enjoy not having to do the daily grind anymore
Finally starting to get back to car projects as well
You can see that I actually added to the "what did you do to your E24 today" thread, albeit about a 5 minute task
But I also got the cabrio up on ramps to check out what my dealer told me was a leaking oil pan gasket, which I did not verify
I did find, however, a bit of a leak around the power steering system, great
Once again, congratulations, enjoy

Re: Today is a lovely day....
Been retired from the corporate world for about 3 years. My day is filled with "honey-do's", car maintenance (E24, E32, ES350, RX350), gardening, and house repairs. But definitely no rest for the weary. A major concern is managing your cash flow as E24 and E32 spending can be unending.
But be sure to enjoy yourself and your family. Make each day count. So a big congratulations!

Retied 2X. She whose name must not be mentioned drove me back to work both times. I work 20 hours a week now which has saved my sanity, my marriage and still leaves me plenty of time for my car stuff. No more house stuff. I buy it after 50 years of doing it and it's great.
Good to you and you will love it

Re: Today is a lovely day....
Congrats, Don!
I've been retired 11 years, involuntarily. Laid off in the economic downturn in 2008-09, decided it was time to hang up the machinists tools. I find it hard to believe it's been that long, time goes by so quickly.

Re: Today is a lovely day....
I still have them and use them. and I am blessed to have a home shop. 12" Monarch engine lathe, 5" mini bench lathe, small Bridgeport type milling machine, Miller TIG machine, AC/DC stick welder, and media blast cabinets (3). Although I haven't done much in the shop lately (cancer will slow you down) I still work on air horns when I feel good.
You'd think after 26 years in the machinist trade I'd be tired of it, but it's different when you work when you want and don't have a boss breathing down your neck.
I hope Don has a long and enjoyable retirement.

Re: Today is a lovely day....
Oh for that Bridgeport. I have an old Atlas gear feed lathe. The ways are good and I can still get the small things I need done on it. I have had it for 45 years and bought it for $150 when a local board of education was updating class room equipment. Even made a set of Ferrari valve guides on it
