Does anyone know the SLS Pump pressure in BAR or PSI

Post by JCS »

Hi Forum Members,

Any BMW Technicians out there?

Does anyone know the hydraulic pressure that the SLS (self leveling suspension) pump puts out?
In German its called (LAD).
The pressure can be in (BAR) or (PSI).
The SLS pump is internally quite different than the PSP (power steering pump) as the PSP has movable vanes.

There is a pressure switch rated at 115 Bar (1,667.50 psi) on the SLS pump unit itself.
And there is another Pressure switch rated at 30 BAR (435.0 psi) that is near the leveling actuator.
But Realoem does not spec a BAR # rating on the SLS pump.

I just hooked up a new pressure gauge to an SLS pump and got 375 PSI or about 26 BAR.
I have two other pumps that I am going to test also.

Best,

Forum Members,

I just hooked up another pump yesterday, and it pegged the 0-2,000 psi gauge. (0-137.93 bar)
This is so odd, I even took a video of it pegging over 2,000., in less than a second.

(115 BAR = 1,667.50 psi)

I ordered a new gauge 0-5,000 psi. (344.83 bar)

I will keep you posted when I test with the new 0-5,000 gauge.

Best,

Forum Members,

Update, I received the 0-5,000 Hydraulic pressure gauge, yesterday.
And installed onto the same #2 pump.

In the first second the pressure shot up to 4,600 psi (317 Bar)
and over the next 15 seconds the pressure gradually decreased to around 2,400 psi (165 Bar).

I had no idea that the SLS pump could put out this kind of pressure.
I am going to continue testing my other pumps and try and determine the norm.

I am also going to test each pump that I rebuild for each client.

Best,
Jay

Jay
Take a look at www.bimmerforums.com as the E32 has an LAD system and the guru, "Shogun" has many posts on the system. I don't know the answer, but I'll bet he does.

FWIW sachs-boge made a similar adjustable ride height system (using an external pump etc like the BMW system, but not self-adjusting) that was fitted to several different Volvo models in the 1980s. Maybe there is some technical information out there on that?

cheers
