early e24 e12 heater control valve extreme solution

Post by LandShark »

They leak , they're a bitch to change, 2 years down the line they could leak again.
So it's simple to see what I did. This is not for the faint of heart.
Im the kind of guy who would prefer 20 guarded toggle switches controlling everything, but until then I have to live vicariously through the aussie building that race replica.

Ive never seen 90's Honda/Acura heater control valves go bad. Their hoses fit the coolant pipes well. I would suggest removing the core from the car, but I got my flanges off by carefully heating and/or cutting. Bolting Identical flanges to mate up would be an even cleaner solution.

SO is this a manual heater control valve?

I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at, and why it may be better than the stock configuration.

HUMMM!
So, you left the original pipes in place, removed the flanges,
added hoses (I see the copper tube) and used an E28 heater valve control??
Is that an on/off handle I see on the new valve?

Is your car a left hand drive?
If yes, how far above the accelerator pedal is the new valve?
What cutting tool did you use for the flanges? :-k
Very, very interesting and thanx,,,,Greg

So it hovers a bit above the accelerator pedal. The valve has a little manual arm. It's from a Honda civic. I used a propane torch for one flange, a dremel cutting tool for the other. Because residual coolant was cooling the pipe, I couldn't heat the joint well enough. Kinda a pain in the butt, approach this project with caution.

Yes left hand drive

What are the numbers on the hoses as a reference?
What year Honda Civic?

Also, do you think it's possible to cut the left hose next to the elect. connector,
and cutting the right hose closest to the brown & yellow and blue wires, making the valve further away from the accelerator?
Or, would that make it too hard to reach the valve?
There goes my Grip brain tweaking things again!
I like what I see,,,,Greg
Ps,,,Did you do this to make it easier to change the valve?
I have a new hockey puck style, factory original valve, not installed yet.
How often do they break down? You mentioned possibly in two years?
Thanx for taking the time,,,,Greg

It's a totally custom job. Details are up to you. This is any 90's Honda heater control valve, they are found near the firewall, engine side of any Honda accord, civic, Integra. I removed as much Honda hose from junkyard cars as I could to mix and match, got the right bends, also used a 1 piece copper elbow, as shown.

There is just some technology in these old cars that does not last. It's not bmws fault. They are now, simply, old cars. The Bosch aux air valve is my next mission.

Since all the photos are gone. No this was a simple hand operated manual valve.
