My '83 e24 developed a leaky fuel line between the fuel rail and the cold start injector - this fuel line is also known as the "perisher" which I think is a term coined by Brucey some time ago. In any case, it was not fun to replace since the side that was on the injector side was underneath the intake manifold, with the clamp oriented so I could not get at it from the top which means it is all done by feel from under the manifold. In any case, after about an hour I managed to get it replaced using new BMW factory hose and clamps. Then I looked at the old line:
Next, on to the distributor cap and rotor (supposedly recently changed by previous owner). This is fairly straightforward: Remove top radiator screws and bushings, fan out, fan shroud out, old cap off after removing 3 bolts with 8mm socket, rotor off using 3mm shorty hex socket (those screws were too tight for a simple allen wrench). Here is what I found inside!
. I am surprised the car ran at all. New Bosch cap and rotor and wow what a difference.
Lesson learned - don't ignore basic maintenance items!
If that is a date code of 1-7-83, then that is the original fuel line (my car was built in June of 1983). I was amazed that it lasted 35 years!New fuel line, distributor cap and rotor replacement

Did you refit the "C" bracket to the dist. cap 8mm set screw that keeps the coolent hose from touching the wp pulley ?

Re: New fuel line, distributor cap and rotor replacement
Just seen the last part of this post - i replaced my distributor and coolant hoses just recently - there was no 'C' clamp in place so i didn't realise anything was missing / needed. Any chance you guys have a photo of how this clamp fits?
Thanks
James
Thanks

Picture is difficult to take so that you can see anything, but if you get the clamp, it will be obvious how and where it fits.

Re: New fuel line, distributor cap and rotor replacement
thanks Scott, i'll order it and come back to you if i can't figure it out! I did think when fitting the replacement bottom hose that it runs very near the pulley at the top but there was a gap and no obvious slack that could make it rub - but now knowing there is a part specifically for this i want to be sure!
Cheers
