I've located a 260 out of an e28 that was working fine when the owner pulled it, as well as an 265 w/overdrive but the condition is unknown.
One question - the owner said the 260 does not have sensor provisions. Is that an issue? I need to check if my automatic has sensors on the bell housing.
I am inclined to go with the 260 rather than rebuild a 265 unless there is a compelling reason to prefer it.
Any suggestions?

Re: Getrag 250 vs 265
You definitely need the two sensor holes for your car. If it came out of an e28 it should have them. There were three transmissions in e28s, it would be good to familiarize your self with the details. Mye28 is down right now but they have a good write up on the different transmissions etc. You should put which model e28 the donor car is and also the model of e24 you have. The 265 is the better transmission, but if its got problems its expensive to fix and maybe impossible due to NLA parts.

Thanks. Since I am in no rush it'll give me plenty of time to do research.
