Throttle boy recommendations

Post by chicane »

1988 635csi -
I performed a smoke test on my M30 and noticed a distinct vacuum leak from the spindles of the throttle body.
Clearly the spindle bores are worn and need to be re-sleeved.

I couldn't find any rebuild kits for our throttle bodies and the only rebuilt throttle bodies are the big bore TB's.
I don't want to buy a used TB as I will just be in the same boat.

Any recommendations?

Not able to help you with this, I'm sorry.

I am however interested in the smoke test you did, what equipment did you use?
Was thinking of making a DIY smoke tester to do the test you performed.
Found this clever video about making a simple and functional smoke tester.

Looks good and not expensive! But sadly not available in Europe.

About your leakage, this video shows a repair of the bearings in a throttle valve of a E30.
Quite a job but not impossible.
