Air con compressor for 1989 highline in the UK?

Post by Chrisd635 »

Hi, does anyone have any idea please where I might source an air con compressor for a 1989 highline in the UK and price? (i believe it was converted to R134a) or alternatively someone who might have a go at a rebuild on the current one, if there is much point in trying? Basically it cuts out after about 5 mins and will work for another few mins if turned off and on again, apparently it is worn out and contact points overheat which causes the issue, i'd love to have fully working air con

Thank you
Chris.

Would the compressor from an E34 of the same era be any good? Were the E34s using R134a all along?

I'm pretty sure the E34 one will work - I've got one here thanks to Phil.

Where are you?

Cheers,

I bought a "new" one from BMW a couple of years back and it was a hassle to fit because it has slightly different connectors on it. I had to get a local aluminium welder to "modify" one the connections.
Cost the best part of 1000GBP and that included the "core" refund you get when you give them your old one back.
Along with new hoses it does work quite well.
