Quick question if anyone can maybe lend some advice. This canister comes with a galvanised flexible pourer spout. My spout had become rusty to the point of not being flexible anymore. I've polished it up with rubbing compound and metal polish which has made it shiny again and allowed it be flexed again. All good. Problem now is how to keep it this way. If I leave this out for just a day, when I come back it has all little spots of rust starting up on it again.
What can I put on an item like this that ideally needs to remain flexible, that will protect it from rusting up again?

Yikes! I was hoping to not have to become an industrial chemist!

It's a fun, and really pretty simple process. Replating is the only solution I can think of, unless you want to keep it slathered with grease.

This stuff works well ACF-50. It is used in aircraft to protect inside tube airframes so that they do not rust from the inside out.

Thanks for the suggestions. The reply about aircraft reminded me I know a guy who runs a small business electroplating parts for the local light aircraft scene. I will make contact with him and see if he can offer anything chemistry-based to the pourer spouts to stop them constantly rusting, because yes, I want them to be useable and not slathered in grease or light oil all the time.
