Getting modern power adapters to work in cigarette lighter

Post by rlane97 »

Getting ready for Sharkfest and I know that my car chargers don't work well in my 1980 cigarette lighter. The hole is too big and phone chargers/radar detectors don't make good contact.

Does anybody have a safe adaptation to make them work?

I normally just bend the 'ears' on the plug slightly. I would assume that this will eventually cause a problem of some kind, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

cheers

yeah, I walked right into that one, didn't I....

But seriously I have wondered about making a sleeve using brass shim stock or something to make the plug a bit tighter-fitting. Might be a simple enough solution...?

cheers
