How to add Water Wetter to Coolant System?

Post by rmorin1249 »

This is likely a dumb question but I'm still a newbie compared to most of you on this forum. My car tends to run a bit hot at slow speeds especially with the AC on. I want to add a bottle of Water Wetter. Do I siphon some coolant from the reservoir in the engine bay and add the Water Wetter to the reservoir. I don't see any way to add it directly to the radiator. Thanks. :-?

I'm sure he means it'll 'disperse quickly'! Or 'circulate quickly'!
And, the dumb question is the un-asked question!!!

It actually works pretty well and will have the car run a little cooler. I did not see a reason thus far to add water wetter since I do not run the AC. Water wetter will also change the freezing point of your coolant by about 10 degrees IIRC

Randall; it might be a good idea to buy a new cap, too.
Not one with the relief valve, but, the plain good one.
That way, you'll know it's new? :-k
This reminds me to get some more anti-freeze.

Will a standard cap from Auto Zone work OK? I added the Water Wetter yesterday but haven't had a chance to drive the car so I can see if it makes any difference. I am going out of town until next week so it will have to wait.

Be careful. The factory caps, as well as most caps have pressure relief incorporated in them. The factory caps are not expensive and will look much better than some of the cheap Chinese made parts store parts. Inspect you existing cap and make sure the seal is good and decide if you need a new one. A factory cap is less than $20.

First, Guys, I totally apologize for cursing. Please forgive me?
And To you Randall, I apologize.
It just seemed to me you were nit-picking. I should've said it that way, I know.
Just reading the word Zanax helped, I guess.
I should've said to take the info you found to the store.

Alpina Dude, I understand your thinking, but, what I meant was, they have a book in the store & that would be good enough for me,
unless I knew otherwise from this great website.

Autozone didn't recommend the Silvers, they just had access to them & I've heard or read that Silvers will do the same things, only longer.
I also asked for your response to my other spark plug query, since you mentioned the 'green motor'.
Nothing yet.

Again: they have no idea what a euro spec anything is much less a m635 with M88

I thought I was very clear in your several post on the same topic when I said:
I typically stick with the recommended Bosch plug as recommended by BMW and avoid some of the ones that the parts supplies recommend such as platinum plugs.
I went on to explain my reasoning especially for the early e12 528 and 530. The info you need will be in your owners manual.

Thanx,,so, in your eyes, the silvers & the platinums are one and the same?
Just to be clear & I'll leave this alone.
I know you said to trust the book, but, I've heard/read that because of modern updates the silvers can help by lasting longer & sense I have the silvers,,,,,,.
You also mentioned the E12 528 & 530. What about the E24 M30 Euro??
I appreciate your input,,,,Greg

You asked about plugs for your 528 and that I answered. Now you ask about e24 m30 and not one in particular. Still I suggest that you reference what the factory recommended. Again; many different ignition types, emission systems and compression ratios. Tip design can cause issues with some pistons. Not all plugs are created equal.

Silver plugs are not Platinum and I have no idea where I might have referenced that. Not sure about the "book" but as I have said: refer to the factory spec when selecting a plug.

Is it really that difficult? If you want to run Platinum plugs because that is what the guys at the parts store recommend: then by all means do just that. If you want to run the silvers because that is what you have: it is your choice. I have offered my opinion and by no means is that going to be the same as that from everyone else nor is it the only option.

First, thanx for your patience with this!

Second, I only speak in terms of my own cars unless I say otherwise.
I have a small shade tree, so I diddle with my own only.

Third, at Autozone, they have a book/computer to refer to, so that helps.
No one said they will know anything about our cars.

Fourth, I didn't ever mention platinums till you did. I mentioned silvers only.

Fifth, no one recommended anything. I went in asking about silvers, since reading that they do the same thing for our cars, but, they do it longer.
Some one either here or firstfives wrote about that.

Sixth, I could be wrong, but, since the eighties, manufacturing could've possibly advanced to where something new just may be better than before.
After all, tire compounds have improved, oil ingredients have improved, anti-freeze, & on & on. I was just fishing around for possible improvements.
Again, thanx for your patience & input. I always respect your opinions.
I'm through,,,,Greg

When shopping at the typical auto parts store I usually ask them to look up my car as an 87 M6. This is after I confirm that the same parts are specified for my Euro M635. The M635 will not show up in 99% of the parts catalogues used by US parts places.

My reservoir cap appears to be in excellent condition and is a German cap so I will keep it for now. I can get a 20 psi Stant cap from Amazon for under $5.

All is well. Now if I could only get parts for my exhaust. Am now considering Fritzbits and Supersprint as it looks like getting OEM is going to be quite expensive.
