After the clean up and panel blending I really decided I should go all the way. I liked the e28 and looks and eventhough this was to be a daily driver: I have now decided to go ahead and do this right. The car went back in the shop not to see daylight for many weeks. I have sent the bumper parts out to be rechromed, I am detailing the grills and wiper system, replacing the rear panel and ordering more parts.

The rear panel was cut out to replace with the euro panel and to address a few minor rust spots.

Had to weld shut the holes left from the US trim in the panel below the headlights and finish off the panel. Realized I had no rocker guard material so I created my own by basically spitting a high build primer out of the gun at very low pressure. It worked very well and produced the desired effect.

Time for clean up!

Had an issue with the cluster and decided to leave the US MPH gauges in for now (probably best for a daily driver here in the US anyway) but used the Alpina housing after I replaced the cracked lens on the original.

Should have left a few hours ago for SESF but because of a slight electrical glitch; I lost many hours until I could track down the issue. My wife said I woke up the night before at 3am cussing about a "dead pedal" and then went quickly back to sleep. I went to the shop dressed the wires that I skinned when installing the pedal and the electricals were fixed. Now I should have been leaving but I had to stripe the front spoiler and mount it. The pics were taken and and I hit the road for the BMW factory a few hours away. The spoiler and bumper still need a little tweaking but I am glad the stripe did not blow off on the drive.

Passenger mirror looked like crap but I took one with me. The paint baked in the trunk as I drove to SESF and I replaced it in the parking garage.

I still have to install the B9 engine but that will come a little later.

Here is a pic that Orlando sent me today of the car outside the Zentrum at the factory:

Amazing work...

Both the E24 and E28 look nothing less than stunning! You're such a lucky guy :D
The M88/3 was all about power, no cats. At idle the raw fuel from the exhaust will make your eyes water like an old V-8 powered muscle car's exhaust did.

Looks Fantastic Todd. How about a side by side photo of the cars ?

How about one above the other? The coupe has claimed residence to the lift.

Amazing stuff
I love Alpinas and you are so lucky to have two.
Really enjoying reading up on your cars.
Whats the other white 635 you have there?
Cheers

Really nice!

That alpina instrument housing is not for sale I reckon?

300kmh would suite my car great since it will do 330kmh/7k rpm.

I have not posted any updates in a while so I will try to get some pictures uploaded soon.

The coupe finally made it out earlier this year and we took it to Southeast Sharkfest. It got down to a crunch to get it ready and my wife made sure that we trailered it since she and my daughter we traveling with me and the car never did get a good shake down run. So off to Spartanburg we went. Once we got there we managed to put about 350km on the coupe without any real issues. I am having a slight issue with the aux fan running all the time and a slight leak from the belt driven diff cooler pump. I also am not happy with the exhaust note and will probably cut the rear muffler open and see if I can repack it. It is the original muffler, and looks to be in excellent condition after all these years and miles but it sounds a little "tinney" without the low rumble that my sedan has. Otherwise it was an absolute blast to drive.

The event was awesome!

We were presented the silver award in the concours and the gold went to an extremely low miles m635 (10k miles?). So I still have some work left to do as it is very difficult to erase all of the years and miles but I will say that I ran out of time and could have prepped the car better. The last time it was polished was for the pics at the beginning of this thread and the interior could still use some detailing.

I'm sure it's in the thread here somewhere, but I can't find it.
Where did you source the stripe kit? I was assuming it's one of the repro kits available? Need a set for Coupe #026 here.

I have several original sets but they are old and I did not want to use them. So I took measurements and plotted them in the shop myself. I use oracal vinyl I the same color as original but of a higher grade.

I don't have any but you might be able to check the Southeast Sharkfest website. I also might be able post some of my e23 745i touring that is currently a rustbucket/project.

Was at High Museum in Atlanta for a presentation by Paolo Martin (well known Italian auto, boat and motorcycle designer) and Chris Bangle of previous BMW fame now with his own design studio. This went along with the concept car exhibit that is currently on hand.

Anyway; Jerry M was also there and took a pic of my coupe as it was parked in the parking garage. Thought I would share the pic of both our cars.
