FORMULA 'E' Race

Post by GripGreg »

It just finished in Malaysia.
The cars look just like F-! cars. Powered by a battery set-up that lets the driver
get off the accelerator to re-charge the batteries & punch it to gain speed!
I even heard the tires at speed! I didn't get the average mph though.
I just saw the last four laps.
The cars of the future? How weird!

I think formula E is ample demonstration (as if it were needed) that proper racing cars should be just a bit noisy. It loses much if they are as quiet as that, it seems; they are not slow by any means, but they don't sound fast to me...

One thing that is interesting is that the fans can vote a brief power hike for some racers over others. So far it looks like it helps if ;

a) your name is Senna
b) you were obviously wronged in a previous race or
c) you are a girl.

One of the lady drivers got the power hike in the last race. She used it to.....

-have an accident with the only other lady driver on the grid, on the opening lap, putting them both out.

Ho hum.... not sure that does the cause of women in motorsport much good, really...

cheers

Its all a bit reality TV for me, some good racers in there but not sure we need the audience participation. We are only a public vote from Death Race 2000!

I caught a glimpse of some of the action.
Looks like a competitive series but...
1) it sounds like I'm watching rc cars race.
2) definitely a different approach to racing. Did I see them switch cars at a pit stop? Not use to seeing that at all.
But it's car racing and I love the action
