keyless entry JC WHitney

Post by pagz_e24 »

So i read through some previous posts about the cheap keyless entry system that JC whitney sells. I went ahead and purchased one after seeing how easy it was to install.

I get it in the mail and it is a different system that is sent now. THe prior posts states it is model #2RTA. THe one I received is Model 2RTA-2. There are two separate control units now, one is the actual control module with a total of 17 wires then there is a Door Lock Relay Module that connects to the control module which has 8 wires.

Has anyone installed one of these newer ones? IN looking at the manual, it does not look like I even need to connect any of the 10 wires as I won't need them. I only need to lock and unlock doors....no horn , ignition kill, lights flashing, etc, etc.

Any feedback is appreciated.

well, i figured it out and got the system installed. Out of the 25+ wires coming out of the system, i only used 5 of them which included, the lock/unlock wires, power wire, and ground wires. Everything appears to be working fine. I just hope there is no mysterious drain on my battery!

How is your range with this unit and where did you put the antenna wire?
Thanks,
Bill

Did you mount it in the trunk?

The range is actually pretty good. I was a good 40-50 yards away and it was locking and unlocking without a hitch.

I mounted the control units in the trunk between the drivers side tail light and license plate. I ran the power wire to the trunk light and the ground wires to the brown wire in the central locking unit. I ran the antenna wire on top of the tail light fixture and did not extend it.

I put mine in yesterday, pretty straightforward after you get rid of all the unnecessary parts. Works great.

How about a link to the specific listing in the JCW catalog? I find a Valiant 6RT, but no 2RTA-2. This would be a wonderful convenience to me, since I have a "three-key car". The DS door has one key, the trunk and PS door another, and the ignition a third key, and the DS door won't activate the central locking (but will lock through central locking from the PS door or trunk).

That is strange, I must have gotten the last one. Though, I see that JCW is selling one on ebay.

Where did you mount the LED? Did you put it in the check panel?

Not yet, but I have the seller bookmarked. I have other issues with the 633 that are higher on the to-do list.

The blue led is pretty bright and noticable when the car is parked. It self-locks shortly after doors are closed. Vibration sensor and door sensor too.

By the way, even though the eBay listing is still up, the website tells me they are "out of stock" with no indication of when they'll be available.

I would think that if the item is still on ebay they must have at least one left.

The eBay app on my phone indicates "this item is out of stock" even though the listing remains. I emailed the seller (J.C.Whitney) and asked if they had any in stock....no reply. Asked why the listing was still up since the app says OOS, and if they knew when they would have more....no reply.

I don't generally deal with sellers that won't reply.

EDIT: Well, I'll just be danged. The OOS warning is gone! I was going to get a screen shot of it and post it, but never mind! :-k

EDIT AGAIN: The out of stock message was gone from the eBay smartphone app, but now it's on the listing when browsing from a regular computer:

the remotes on the one from Ebay look a lot better then the one I got. Mine looks like something from a chevy Malibu...not very appealing but it works!

You are right, these don't look great but they work pretty good. I like the flip style of one that Jacko got, but pricier.
