Heated seats

Post by BlackBetty »

Does anyone know if heated seats were an option with Sport seats? Or just the comfort seats?
Found a 635 that is being parted out and was wondering if it was worth the time and effort to rip the wiring harness out to add to my car...my car has sports, the donor has comfort seats.. I am sure I can find some heating pads to slide in there, just don't know if the physical structure of the sport seat/ foam allows it..
Thanks..

I nearly bought an M635CSi that had original heated and electric memory sports seats so yes, they can be fitted.

I have an unused OEM loom and two of the very, very rare E24 heating switches and will some heating pads to my seats.

e30 convertible cars usually had sport seats with heaters. Same seats so heat pads should work.

The very rare bits are the E24 heated seat switches as they have a horizontal orientation - all the other cars of that era that have similar switches and wiring have a vertical orientation; E23, E28, E30, E32 and E34.

So I am looking at the wiring diagram for the heated seats, and I do not see any relays in the system.. Am I to understand correctly that both heating elements for both seats run thru fuse 16 (15amp)? And all power runs thru the switches? 180 watts doesn't seem like a lot of heat.... And a lot to run thru a switch..

I am getting the seats redone and will get heated seat pads, since the ladies of the house seem to distaste the cold seats in the winter time.

Couple questions please:

1) traditional metallic vs carbon/water... thoughts? efficiency, durability?

2) I have one (and looking for another) E30 switch which I intend to put on the back of the central console, where there are 2 preformed holes. Has anyone already wired that? Any advice?

Thank you

I last checked a few years ago the OEM heating elements were still available. The overall seat rebuild was unexpectedly way expensive but thinking back I should have added them.

Since my car did not have them to start with, it's hidden, and the technology must have progressed, I am not sure I would want to use OEM as opposed to modern stuff. Is that heresy?
