Bilsteins B4 or B6

Post by sideshowbob »

Looking to replace set of original OEM shock absorbers with Bilsteins.

Car is at standard ride height, on 17" RC090 wheels.

Do I go for B4 or B6

I am sure B4's will be an improvement over my worn shocks...but will B6 be a step too far.

Looking for a firm but sporty ride.

Over the last couple of years most worn bushes and ball joints have been replaced, so shock absorbers and top mounts are the final bit.

Thanks

Alpina Bilsteins were custom valved to their specs. B4s won't do. The problem is that with lowering springs you need a shorter stroke shock or the springs can lift off their perches. B8 sports are the proper shock to get. However, I would send your original Bils back to Bil for rebuilding . It will cost as much as new ones but you will have everything correct and have the quality of a new shock proper for the Alpina suspension.. If you choose not to go this way B6s for sure.

Have not had them fitted as yet.

Bilstein are struggling to supply.

I was planning to have the suspension altered when I had a new stainless exhaust and manifold fitted, this has now been put back and will be completed when the car is converted from auto to 5 speed manual....but that's another story, late July early August !!
