e12 4pot vs e24 single vs aftermarket caliper

Post by Grapedude »

Hi, I'm working on an e12 based 635csi and am the point of running brake lines from new master cylinders on Wilwood pedal box...one master cylinder for the rear and one split twice and then twice again for the fronts. I've done a search on this forum and am I correct in assuming a rebuilt set of 4pot e12 calipers are better than the later e24 singles and equal to aftermarket 4 pot calipers? I've got v12 e32 rear trailing arms and an e28 M5 subframe and large case diff to put in so I'll have pretty big rear brakes as well. That should stop a charging shark pretty well? Anybody see any issues or advice on this before I order all the rebuild kits and lines?
cheers

Hi Grapedude,

I did the e32 rear brake swap on my e12 based 6ixer. It was a hell of an upgrade. The rear brakes really made the difference. I would say the original e12 front brakes and e32 rear brakes with good pads, is a supreme braking set up for the e12 based 6ixers. Once you complete the brake swap im sure you should be in the market for better tires that can actually handle the stopping force so that you dont lock up in less than dry conditions.
