Good evening, experiencing some fluid leaks. Slight oil from drain plug (probably crush washer). But then transmission fluid leak and then an oil leak from the rear. So without jacking the car up I looked underneath and discovered a large opening.
I have tried search the internet to diagnose what this is but have come up empty. Can someone please shed some light as to what is going on.
Thanks
Sal

Re: Hole in my transmission? Engine?
What you're seeing through the "hole" is the flywheel. Tbh, I'm not sure whether there's meant to be an "inspection" hole in that position - the edges look very rough as if it's been cut out by hand - but in my (pretty limited) experience of clutch and transmission stuff it's not unusual to have an opening in that area.
Edited to add the pic below. So it is indeed an OE inspection hole, but without it's protective slatted cover. Thinking about it, I have seen the feature on my own car,

Plip1953,
Thank you. Trying to find images of the underside of an E24 automatic to see where these leaks may be coming from. Anyone with pics of Transmission, bell housing oil pan installed on the car?
Thanks
Sal

Typically the cooling hoses are the leak points
The ends can be reused with new locally bought Transmission Cooling hose.

Re: Hole in my transmission? Engine?
I think your best bet would be to clean the underside off of all that oily mess then take a look and see if you can see where its coming from. Also what are you having to top up? Trans or engine, Or even power steering? I've had steering fluid running back making a mess further back than youd think. Looking that pic I'd think oil pan or rear main seal.
