Can the engine be removed from the top?

Post by Austintatious »

Hey everyone, I am really thinking about buying a Metric mechanic engine... What I cant find out is if it is possible to remove the engine from a 6 series from the top. Every video I have seen shows them dropping the engine and transmission out of the car on a lift, which I cannot do.

Is it possible to get the transmission loose and lift the engine up and out?

Yes With the tranny out, the motor will come out at an angle and, clear the fire wall. If you keep it pointing straight forward it won't scratch anything. Better with 2 people so the motor won't spin. And yes, you can pull he tranny from the bottom.Undo the motor motor mounts and the motor will tilt back enough get to the top bolts on the tranny. Of course you have to drop the exhaust system completely

Yes out the top. I have Metric Mechanic 5 speed and rear diff. You won't be disappointed.
I used Charley Olsen in Nyack, NY for my rebuild one town east from me. Good Luck.

If it's your first swap, figure on 40 hours. If you go faster than that you'll miss something and have to back up. Nothing more annoying than having to backtrack because you were in too big a hurry. You can go fast after the swap is done.

Invest in one of these. It makes a huge difference in handling the engine.

I had mine built by local builder. I was saying that MM products are first rate. My tranny & diff are MM.
Totally happy with their units.

I used my stock B34 block with a B35 Hartge head and cam, had to have custom pistons to get to 10:1.
Of course their was also the stand alone ECU installed by the tuners that makes everything come together.
Went from 182 to 265 HP.

Good luck
