Merry Christmas to you too Josh and all the Aussie's here on BC. Would love to be able to participate in a drive but a little bit far for me to come :D

Taking a drive down to see the daughter in Albany for new years, in the new E46 M3. Gonna have to be careful of Smokey in that car

Ellis,

Engine back together and back in car. Need to change the timing chain tensioner to the S50 version plus hook up. Drive shaft is tight and needs modding. Hopefully can book into dyno in the next two weeks.

Talked to Dave on Central Coast who is in for a drive and Bob and Trevor will jump at it. I'm expecting a mid Fed completion and a few tests. Will put a child seat in for little Isaac. So March onward sounds probable.

Any preferences? I was thinking to meet windsor way and then head north or south. Trev is Bathurst based, you are well south and Dave and Bob are Newcastle based. Open to any ideas.

Josh

G'day Josh,

Sounds good mate, pleased to hear things are coming together for you. I can probably come up your way some weekend in March or April, maybe out to Bathurst and back is worth doing, link up with Trev?

I'm easy on where to and which weekend - looks like there's a car event on at Mt Panorama the weekend of 11 March, so probably want to avoid that. I'm open to heading north however I don't really know the roads very well, but I'm good when it comes to follow the leader. Other than that what's good?

G'day Gaz - when & where are the Nationals?

If i might suggest something and if it is not too far away for you guys. Try the drive from Port Macquarie west on the Oxley Highway. It takes you up through picturesque Hastings River Valley, through Wauchope, on to Long Flat (stop at the pub there, check out Kindee Bridge), continue up past Seaview and climb the Great Dividing Range. This section is wonderfully full of curving climbs and tight switchbacks. Eventually you pop out on to the Northern Tablelands with long flat straight runs through Walcha and on to Bendemeer, where you can turn south again for Tamworth. A truly spectacular run with all types of driving and endless photo ops.

Baders, that drive sounds fantastic and is now on my must do list. Unfortunately it is a weekend drive for most of us and to kick things off for the year either a Saturday or Sunday for 5 or 6 hours would be preferable. I think Paul works Saturdays so we may aim for a Sunday.

Still, what a drive. Mid Autumn it would be fantastic.

Timing chain tensioner from the S50 has now gone to the mechanic. So hopefully first start this week and then off to the dyno. Getting closer to that drive.

Engine back together and started. Needs valve adjustment.

Drive shaft tight so will need this modified prior to going to the dyno.

But at least it started!!!!

G'day Guys, not sure if you remember the bloke from Coonabarabran that some of you visited several years ago??? Long time since I have been on here.

Lots of changes, we now live in Tamworth (sold the business, property etc etc) but I still have the M635.

If you ever do the run across the dividing range let me know, I would love to catch up.
The run across from Port is very twisty for about 50-75km and can be a bit slow. Other wise great run and you know its good as its a favorite for the bikes.
The other good one is from Coffs across to Armidale.

Regards
Rob.

The run would be great. Are we talking the B56? Many radar traps?? I'll wait until my wife and Son are holidaying in Brazil before doing that one. You're easy for me to remember Rob, my uncle had a farm at Binnaway and he shares your first name. Love the area when it is not too dry.

Car started and running. Sounds very batwing CSL banshee wail mixed with that mechanical precision sound. Very exotic racey sound. My mechanic and I were giggling like kids. We did not expect it to sound so good. Must be the big CAMS. Minor adjustments to shims needed post first run. Prop shaft and LSD need slight position adjustment to see if we can get away from taking the prop shaft out and shortening it.

Hoping to be booking dyno late next week. Then Megasquirt MS3 Pro in, slotted cam gear and the 2 PLX live feed gauges with the 5 sensors. Add the two new (old stock) recaro front seats and that will do me for a while. I'll then book in our 6'er drive........ at last.

I bought a getrag 6 speed from an e39 M5. It has pretty much the same gear ratios as the 5 speed dogleg with 5th at 1:1 and 6th is a similar ratio to top gear in the 5 speed overdrive. So you get dogleg sharp acceleration with the overdrive cruising. Add that to my guesstimate of 300kw and 450nm of torque in a car weighing under 1485kg and it should be a ballistic missile. Will put this in late this year. This has been too exhausting and I want to drive it for a while.

Hopefully dyno vid in March.

G'day Rob,

Certainly do remember you. You and your family were extremely hospitable and welcoming when we visited your property, marvellous full-on lunch, we were all quite surprised and very appreciative at the huge spread you put on for us. Image

Dave G is sending down the shims. Car booked into the dyno for Wednesday week. Then I'll book in the drive, assuming the engine remains together and in one piece. If we are still making hp above 7750rpm, we may ring it to 8000rpm.

Bmwccv are organising a trip to the BMW nationals in Brisbane.

Road Trip to BMW Nationals, April 2017

Itinerary
• Sunday 9 April: The trip starts in Melbourne after lunch and we cruise to Bairnsdale for the first night.
• Monday 10 April: Cruise together to Orbost. From there, a choice of fabulous roads through the mountains or a highway cruise. Overnight on the coast in beautiful Merimbula.
• Tuesday 11 April: Travel together along scenic, coastal back roads to Narooma, then cruise up the Princes Hwy to Nowra. From there, a choice of famous driving roads through the Southern Highlands or a highway cruise and cutting through Sydney. Overnight in Richmond, on the western fringe of Sydney.
• Wednesday 12 April: The primary route heads inland through the Hunter Valley and Tamworth then across to the coast at Port Macquarie, including one of the East Coast’s very best stretches of road. The cruise alternative is along the scenic expressway North from Sydney, stop in at the new Gosford motor museum, then cruise up the Pacific Highway to the overnight stop at Port Macquarie.
• Thursday 13 April: Cruise up the highway to Coffs Harbour. A choice of back road or highway to Grafton, then another cruise to Ballina and along the scenic road to famous town and headland at Byron Bay. Either twisty back roads or the main road to the overnight stop at Murwillumbah.
• Friday 14 April: The Queensland club will escort us through mountain roads to Brisbane. The cruise alternative is along the highway past the Gold Coast to Brisbane and the Nationals headquarters.
The primary route is under 500km each day except for the Wednesday (650km), but the cruise route that day is just 400km.
The route caters for interstate clubs to join us at Melbourne or Richmond (Sydney).

I'll probably be doing it in the 540i/6 if I can get it ready in time.

Sounds great Gaz but just too hard with a 3 year old. Otherwise, I'd be in for the weekend.
