Ridiculously wide JPS guards to fill. Help needed!

Post by Mamod17 »

Hi, I’m building a JPS tribute on a 1980 E12 based series 1.

The flares are enormous and I’m trying to fill them with wheel and rubber. I’m realising now that replicating a race car doesn’t translate directly to the road.

The test mule is running 265 /40/16s with 20mm spacers on 9.5 rims which rub slightly on the inner guard.

For my build front wheels I’m looking at 245/45/r16 tyres on 9.25” wide rims - inners 4.25” outers 5”. The centre’s have a 25mm padding between the hub and the wheel face. I’m hoping this will give me enough clearance. Back wheels 275/45/10.5 wide rims. Inners 4.5 outers 6”.

I’m hoping someone may have had experience building a group 2 or racing 6 with similar wheel dimensions.

I am concerned about the front hitting the suspension or inner guard. Also concerned about tramlining with wide front tyres.

To truly get the width I would need 30 mm spacers on top of these which I believe would make a mess of scrub radius.

Hopefully bigger brains than mine can shed some light on what I can expect/how to achieve the desired outcome? :D

Send me your email and I'll send you the full Group 2 Homologation Spec's - pdf file too large to attach

Me thinks though even if you mange to fill those guards you wont have a very practical road car.
