That's exactly my scenario, and the debate I'm having with myself at the moment too.
If the varnish was not present on the components, I would resolder a new Transistor in a heartbeat.

I can see that the power plugs are accessible under the dash.
But I can't really see a way to pull the plastic pins out of the clips to allow the module to be removed.
I had to push the pins from behind (inside the blower box) to allow them to be removed.
