interior temp sender location

Post by knunger »

If this was my e28, I'd know the answer. But since there's no place on the kickpanel, I'm stumped. My ETM says 'Behind dash left of steering column' and a crappy picture that is not helpful. And where does the vac line run through the firewall?

Any and all help much appreciated!

The sensor is just below the steering column on the left side.

This is where it is on my 1988 US M6. One pic is looking up on left/drivers side floor next to clutch pedal. The other is with the knee bolster dropped.

Can't remember about the hose pass through location - sorry.

Wow! My kickpanel doesn't look anything like that:

After looking at a whole bunch of RealOem's for a bunch of different e24's, the closest to what I have is an e12 535.
Mine has a cutout for the headlight aiming knob and the window breaker but that's it.

Anybody have comments about this FrankenBimmer?

See if you can follow the small dia plastic hose that comes off the bottom of the inlet manifold.

Hello Kim. It appears that your cover is missing the insulated cardboard extension that has slots for the pedals. The Temp sensor is mounted in the cardboard extension

The rubber grommet at the bulkhead has a small round hole for the temp sensor tube. I have a spare tube but you should be able to find similar at a parts store. Same material used in aftermarket analog oil pressure gauges. Good luck

Aha! That explains a lot! Especially the three rivets sticking up along the bottom inside of the piece I have. Thank you!

Now Ralph, PLEASE tell me you have one of these??
Anybody else?

Or even a photo with dimensions and I can try to cobble something together...

Thank you Ralph!
Even if it's beat to s**t or in pieces, I'll take it and use for a template...
