Auction: 31 March - 2 April 2017, NEC, Birmingham
Registration: FRZ 6829
Year: 1985
Odometer reading (miles): 15,274
Estimate £40-50k
Sold for (£): 100,100
Now that's low mileage, average 477 miles per year, do you really think the owner(s) got a feel for the car? Doubtful, and also a bit of a shame IMO.

Re: CC Auctions: 1985 BMW M635 CSi, Schwarz
This was up for sale at £45k with a dealer (Oxford area, if I recall correctly) for a long time last year and it didn't sell. The same photos were used on the adverts. I think it was described then as having spent most of its life as part of an indoor collection, up on axle stands.
If it finds a new home, it should provide a clear indicator as to the state of the M635 UK market.

I couldn't recall if I had seen this for sale last year or not, so thanks for confirming.

That car is a total stunner, IMO the guide price is very reasonable, likely to reappear for significantly more!!
I think the market for all decent E24's M or otherwise is pretty healthy, I sold my 1982 628csi manual (88k miles reasonable history and condition was 7/10) in August 2016 for £5900 in a few hours of advertising and could have sold it 10 times over with the volume of enquiries, in Jan 2017 my 89 M635csi Highline #508 went to a dealer in Billingshurst for some work (Walkers Autotech) they offered initially £25k and then went quickly to £28k to buy it off me, he reckoned he could get £35k retail (#508 has 144k miles with good history and condition is 9/10).
This 15k mile'd M635 in CCA I reckon could retail anything up to £70/75k from a specialist dealer with what else has recently sold that is a fraction of quality of this stunning vehicle. Infact i'm suprised it didn't sell last year!!

Looks very good but beware the "Garage Queen", These are machines and all machines need to be used. The mileage on this is so small that it almost limited to trips for a service and MOT. I am of the breed that buys cars to drive and not just store and admire. The effect of storage on seals and hydraulics can be dramatic. Buy it and use it!!

Our cars are going to skyrocket shortly. In 5yrs we will wondering why we didn't buy all the m635csi's we could when they were only 30-40000quid. It won't be long before our cars are reaching 1/4mil usd or more.

I watched the sale live as i was bidding on a few - the bidding started fast and was very strong at the end.

£100k? Mmmmmhh.
Clearly the mileage is exceptional, but even so I simply don't get how this car sat in the classifieds through much of last year at £45k, yet miraculously hits this astonishing figure now.
And let's not overlook the fact that a 635i Auto hit £32k (inc. premium and tax admittedly) at the same auction.

A dramatic upturn in the market?
A flush E24 collector?
Naughty auctioneers?

I was thinking exactly the same thing.Soperman wrote:I simply don't get how this car sat in the classifieds through much of last year at £45k
However if I remember correctly M6 Chris's car didn't sell that quickly, and I felt it went for much less than it was actually worth, considering all the work that went into it. That was back in Aug 2015, maybe the market really has moved on.
Re: CC Auctions: 1985 BMW M635 CSi, Schwarz
I think the US market is significantly different from the rest of the world.
Cars are heading up in value and have been for a few years but now it seems a bunch are coming out of the woodwork with the higher tide of prices and any further (significant) rise in pricing is quite a few years off IMO. There are just too many good M^'s and M635's in the US. It's not like the E28 M5 or E34 M5 where they just aren't around.
I think 635's are actually the ones to rise in the US market since good condition cars are getting quite difficult to find these days.

It would seem that UK RHD M635CSi #055 which sold on April 1st for circa £100k, was bought by a Mr. Pembroke, aka The 18th Earl of Pembroke, custodian of Wilton House near Salisbury.
One presumes it has joined his Lordship's collection of rather tidy motors.

This information at least goes some way to explaining how the car fetched such a high price.

The Earl of Pembroke has swapped this M635 for an E46 M3 CSL from the stock of Classic Heroes. and they’ll be advertising it for sale soon. I’m keen to see what they’ll ask for it.

Re: CC Auctions: 1985 BMW M635 CSi, Schwarz
Was that the car CH had on sale for £65k?
Re: CC Auctions: 1985 BMW M635 CSi, Schwarz
Nope. Classic Heroes have only very recently taken it into stock and have yet to advertise it.
But this is the car that made £100k four years ago, so I wonder if CH will be tempted to ask a similar price for it.

I was referring to the M3 that they are showing as “sold”.
Re: CC Auctions: 1985 BMW M635 CSi, Schwarz
Whoops, sorry Pod.
Yep, I think it's a pretty safe assumption that the £65k CSL, now sold on the CH website, is the one that resides at Wilton House.
