Installed Style 42 Wheels

Post by Papillon »

I just installed new wheels and tires on my 86. I picked up a set of brand new BMW style 42 wheels on Craigslist. They are 17" x 8" wide all around. Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport+4. Size is 235/45/17 all around. Got them from Costco better price than Tirerack. I used combination wheel spacers/hub adapters to fit new wheels 74.1mm hubs to 72.6mm E24 hubs. Spacers are 10mm all around and also used 35mm wheel bolts vs. standard 27mm bolts. Below is link where I got the spacers/hub adapters. Quality of the spacers is really good. Everything fit very snug. I had the car front end aligned before I got new wheels. Ride quality with new setup is so much nicer than the previous 15" wheels and cheap General tires. No vibration at any speed. Car tracks straight and does not wonder like before. Cornering is also much better. My suspension is stock height so no tire rubbing. Michelin tires are very quiet. Grip is excellent. Car looks and drives so much better then before

Very nice.
Good size and good tire choice. =D>
Sadly a lot of tires these days are cheap and bad Chinese copies of quality tires. Tests show these are very unsafe.
We could also ask the Russian army what they think of Chinese tires  .

I really like these Michelins. Put them on my wife's X5 last summer and decided to do same for the shark. Pay little more but worth it.
