1988 M6 HVAC Panel removal

Post by cmcgettrick »

Hi guys,

I'm new to bigcoupe but I have had my E24 M6 for almost 2 years now. I recently removed the gauge cluster in my car to have it restored. I figured that this might be a good time to see if I can replace the little U-joint that connects to the temperature dial on the HVAC panel. My question is how do I get the passenger side of the panel to release from the dash. I see the 2 screws on the driver side that need to be removed and then I see 2 screws under the fan speed knob that might need to come out but this is where I get stuck. I just dont want to force anything so I figured I would ask.

Tech Sub-Section & Search Feature are your Friends... :D
Be especially careful when removing/installing the HVAC panel "Left Side, Vertical Trim Plate" as the pins snap easily after thirty plus years.

So I was able to pull the Hazzard switch out then just reached in and pushed the AC switch out. Once those little screws above (and behind) the Hazzard and below (and behind) the AC switches came out replacing that U-joint was pretty straightforward. While I was in there I took the time to clean out the ductwork and the panel, looks much better. Thanks again for the help!
