Gong

Post by sauber »

Hello everybody

On my '85 E24 the "gong" doesn't make a sound. I checked the three wires that are connected to the gong. The voltage is only on the red wire and it is constant when the key is in position 0, in the end position or when the engine is running. The gong should work when the orange "CHECK" warning light flashes on the dashboard.

I followed the wires and they come together to a large bundle under the dash.

Can someone please help me how to solve the problem? Is the problem in the "gong" or in the wires? In which wires should there be voltage and when?

I know, some would definitely be happy that the gong doesn't work

Hi Sauber,

I've owned my 6 going on 36 yrs. The gong never sounded for the "check" on my car.

That's great news Bob, thank you for that. I'll leave everything as it is.

Maybe it's the difference between Euro and US, who knows... I had an 85' US a year ago and there was always a "gong" when the dashboard warning "CHECK".

My 6 is a US also, could be mine wasn't working and I never realized it should.
It did gong when I opened the door with the keys in the ignition switch.
