Re: Motronic 1.0 to 1.3 conversion

HI both, Kevin: yes, ITBs are the dodgy[dodgyist, if that's a word] bit of the plan. I will need to smooth the transition between the bigger B35-sized inlet adapters and the smaller B34 ports. Not ideal, I know. Phil: I will, eventually, be running standalone ExtraEFI ECU, but in the meantime I want...

Thank you Bert, thanks for pm too.

Motronic 1.0 to 1.3 conversion

Hi chaps, What would happen if I installed the complete Motronic 1.3 system from a B35 instead of the 1.0 on my M90? The engine is from a 1981 car - the funny run-out year for the S1 cars, so Motronic, not L-Jet. Obviously this is based on having sorted the fusebox wiring and the under-dash C101 con...

Just look at this beautiful place.

Can't wait to get back, Don, especially as I've finished the bottle of Irish Whisky you kindly furnished me with!

Re: M88 sudden high idle when warm

It's not a bad idea with our old cars to run a wideband exhaust sensor linked to a air/fuel gauge. You can see in real time the changes that you make are affecting this. It's all about getting these mixtures right. Hey Gaz, Where did you install the o2 sensor for the gauge? I'm assuming you chose o...

Re: M88 sudden high idle when warm

That's brilliant news! Idle surge now sorted.

Idle now just needs fine tuning? A manometer and the "master" idle air flow valve (if yours is the same as my M88) should bring you into spec, assuming all of the butterflies have been set correctly.

Re: M88 sudden high idle when warm

Not directly relevant to your problem, but when I rebuilt my M635 I installed a Fritz exhaust manifold - the underbonnet temps would make the throttles stick open, only fixed with ceramic coating manifold and downpipes.

Re: ABS light on

Fronts are integral part of wheelbearing. I have changed a fair number of these, but never seen a bad reluctor ring - possibly just luck on my part, or they are better able to withstand corrosion??

Re: Can I run 7" wide on 8 inch wide Rims Up Front?

If I'm understanding the question correctly: yes - but if these are the ET23 offset wheels from the 7er (the offset is marked on the rim) than you might not be able to run 225 section tyres on the front because they will rub against the strut. I had these on an M535i with 205/55r16 on the front with...

Re: Drivability Improvements

My M635 was exactly as you describe - very heavy indeed, to the extent that it gave me backache! On inspection, the clutch friction plate was not excessively worn, but was visually different from the M30 635 in having additional springs. I could not see any difference with the pressure plate, althou...

Awesome work!

You might want to consider cutting the seat mount crossmembers down 15mm or so before welding them back in for some extra headroom.

Easy to miss rear reluctor ring actually broken, despite appearing okay with superficial inspection.

Cold start valve still operated by thermotime switch though?

I unplugged mine on my M635 because it just wasn't needed - Euro M88 runs rich anyway as far as I know.

Re: lost my key

Here in UK, dealer will make you a new key on submission of proof of ownership. An expensive waste of time if locks have been changed (ask me how I know!) Not sure about glovebox, Bert - I made up a set to match my ignition key and I seem to remember the glovebox having two fewer wafers, but I haven...

That is so helpful Tom, thank you.

I'm having fun and games building up an oil pump to replace the E34 B35 one/E34 sump on my oversize B34 engine - I'm relieved the clean and test procedure is so simple.

Re: UK M635CSi For sale #062

That is a lot of rust! Brucey's project car, stored against, then under a bush, full of snails and sediment rusted out on the rear wing like that...and oh boy, that was rusty except for the front end which poked out from the undergrowth and showed off Brucey's exquisitely skilled welding on the inne...

Indeed - if you buy a set of the 7", you can always sell the spare half-and-half to another E24/E28 owner - they do look the part.

Re: B34 oil pump rear mounting bracket and two bolts

Thank you both so much,

I have a lead on this part as well as a sump, but will reach out again if this comes to naught. This is from an E28 M535i (your 535is) and appears to be a much simpler pressed steel part.

Re: Best 16" Tire Aspect and Width for 1987 Coupe?

Raking through my memory here, but watch out, you might have clearance issues. If they fit without needing hubcentric rings then they are most likely E32 rims. 8J is the width, but what's the offset? From memory, these are ET23 (as a negative offset, so the rim sits closer to the car rather than the...

As per subject, does anyone do an led bulb retrofit? None of my torches work at all.
