Motor mount removal and replacment

Post by KINGJOHN808 »

Aloha all!

Very productive and shocking day. Finally got around to replacing the motor mounts. Was a little easier than I expected. Both sides took a little over an hour or so.

Had the car on ramps so it made it easy to get underneath and do the thang. Did one side at a time as I was afraid that the motor would shift uncontrollably. Definitely use a little PB Blaster on the nuts a few days before. It will definitely help.

I knew the mounts were bad but had no idea how bad until the passenger side fell out/off the car when I removed the bottom nut. Seriously, not sure what was holding the engine in the car other than gravity. \:D/

Either way, if you see that your mounts are cracked, look suspicious or you just have no idea how old they are, do yourself a favor and set aside some time to remove and replace them. I forgot to take a look at the transmission mounts, so will be checking those out tomorrow. If the motor mounts are original, I’m sure the transmission mounts are probably original too.

Aloha and have a great day!

Wow, that looks worn!
Looks like the exhaust was keeping the motor in place :D
