No Dumbass questions :) if you look at page 1 of this post you will see a diagram of which parts these are .... they are not the door frame seal rubbers ( these are or were still available from BMW) these are the flocked on the window side rubbers that seal the door to the window externally and stop water running down inside the door they are fitted to the aluminium belt moulds on top of the door shell and and along the rear side window in the kit is also the small rubber that stops the aluminium mould rubbing the paint off the door these rubbers were never available as a replacement part they were only available with the aluminium trim and they are no longer available and most I have seen are now cracked and shrunk leaving big gaps for the water to run through
Hope this helps

Ok, that makes sense now. Thank you, I will have to check mine out I am sure they are more like plastic than rubber after all these years.

They originally aren't actually rubber they are a pvc which is why they shrink and crack etc

Are these still available? All I require are the seal strips for the base of the windows that stop water encroaching into the door! Mine are so bad they've cracked and separated, might aswell be solid plastic!

Just a note on this thread to say that I have now fitted these door weatherstrips to my car and can say that the quality and fit is excellent. I am in the process of fitting the rear side glass items and will be posting a write up on the work done on my Project thread .
Thanks Ric these have made a huge difference to the finish of my car .

Hello, I would also be interested in strips for the front and the rear, both sides. So you have any more stock left?

Cheers.

Don,
When you remove the old set are they usable for a less valuable car or are they destroyed in the process?

No, you won't damage the old original ones if you do it the way I did it (see my project thread ).
If the are splitting vertically , as all seem to, then they really are compromised beyond use as they will allow water to pass down into the door , plus the felt inside face will most likely be cracked and brittle.
I threw my old ones away.

Ric, thanks - a well packed parcel arrived today and the quality of the strips looks excellent.

Looking forward to fitting these as can imagine the nice soft rubber will make a big cosmetic improvement to the car :D
